Text Messaging (SMS) Policy

How 100 Black Men of Greater Dallas/Fort Worth, Inc. uses text messaging, how you opt in, and how to opt out.

About Our Text Messaging Program

The chapter sends informational text messages about chapter activities, events, meetings, and youth mentoring program updates to members, mentees, and parents/guardians who have opted in. Conversational (two-way) messaging is not supported — our messages are one-way notifications, and the only replies we process are the keywords described below (STOP, START, HELP).

How You Opt In

We only send text messages to people who have given us express consent. Consent is collected in three places, each using the exact language shown below:

1. Membership application

Applicants for chapter membership may check an optional SMS consent checkbox (Section F of the application) accompanied by this language:

“I agree that 100 Black Men may send text messages about chapter activities to my mobile number. Reply STOP to any message to opt out. Message and data rates may apply.”

2. Mentee (youth program) application

The parent or guardian completing a youth program application may check an optional SMS consent checkbox (Section D of the application). The parent/guardian provides consent for both their own mobile number and their child's mobile number, using this language:

“I agree that 100 Black Men may send text messages about program activities to my mobile number and my child’s mobile number. Reply STOP to any message to opt out. Message and data rates may apply.”

3. Member portal — communication preferences

When a member first signs in to the member portal, they are shown communication preferences that include an optional SMS consent checkbox (unchecked by default) with this language:

“I agree that your chapter's name may send me text messages about chapter activities. Reply STOP to opt out. Message and data rates may apply.”

In every case, SMS consent is optional. It is never a condition of membership, program participation, or any purchase. When you opt in, your consent is recorded with a timestamp and the source where it was given.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies with chapter activity. You can typically expect a few messages per month.

Opt Out / Help

Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts from us. Opt-outs are processed immediately and honored across all future messages. Reply HELP for help, or contact the chapter at info@100bmgdfw.org. If you opted out and want to receive texts again, reply START.

Fees

Message and data rates may apply according to your carrier plan. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your Mobile Information

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, excluding our messaging vendor, which acts solely as a service provider to deliver messages on our behalf.
